Helpful Oracle hints I've found and saved

How To Find Your Oracle Version

To quickly find out what version of Oracle software you have installed, you can run the following query:

SELECT * FROM V$VERSION

This will show you something like the following:

BANNER
—————————————————————-
Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.8.0 – 64bit Production
PL/SQL Release 9.2.0.8.0 – Production
CORE 9.2.0.8.0 Production
TNS for Solaris: Version 9.2.0.8.0 – Production
NLSRTL Version 9.2.0.8.0 – Production

You can even do this when the database is not mounted.

As in, you started it with the command:

startup nomount;
